In this talk, I'll share a brief background about DOS and FreeDOS, and review several interesting highlights over the project's history. I'll conclude with a list of lessons learned in maintaining an open source community, including how to keep people engaged, how to build interest and attract new folks from outside the community, code of conduct, license clarity, and missteps to avoid. More generally, this is about how to keep a small but dedicated open source community going for over 30 years.
